WEDDINGS – A DIRTY PROBLEM WITH AN EASY SOLUTION!

What are carbon offsets?

Carbon offsets are certificates that represent a specific amount (one metric ton) of carbon dioxide being removed from the atmosphere. These certificates come from projects like reforestation (planting trees, which absorb carbon dioxide), or renewable energy (like wind and solar, which avoids greenhouse gas emissions from typical power plants). In many cases the carbon offset programs are in rural areas or family-owned, generating social and economic benefits in addition to the carbon offset benefit.

When you offset your footprint with Green My Wedding’s carbon offset packages, you are purchasing verified carbon offsets, funding these projects and ensuring that a specific amount of carbon dioxide is in fact removed from the atmosphere. All of our offsets are sourced from projects that meet the criteria for one of the industry's leading certifications. This ensures that they're credible, additional (make a difference beyond the status quo), and impactful. So you can rest assured knowing that your green wedding is having a permanent impact on the environment.

The root cause

Let's start at the beginning, and forgive us if you already know this (it’s not common knowledge). Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, the driving force behind climate change (global warming, which results in extreme storms, unpredictable weather, severe droughts and wildfires, more widespread disease, bad conditions for winter sports, dying coral reefs, etc). The more carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, the worse that is for climate change and as a result, our planet and the species inhabiting it (us and our animal friends). Everything we do – use electricity, travel, even eating – causes carbon dioxide to enter the atmosphere. Which is why greening your wedding (which actually has a pretty big footprint) matters...

The solution!

Carbon offsets are a unique solution. Essentially, they do good to counteract the negative impact of your carbon footprint, balancing out to zero and thus greening your wedding.
